Mary Leigh (Edwards) Wood

                         Spring Hope…. Mary Leigh Edwards Wood, 100, went home to be with her Lord and Savior October 20, 2025. She was born April 18, 1925 in Nash County, the daughter of the late Jonathan Clee Edwards and Eleanor Powell Edwards.

                         Mary Leigh lived a life filled with faith, service, and dedication to her Lord. She was a long standing member of Holly Grove Baptist Church. She loved her Lord and the fruit of the Land He blessed us with. She worked the land alongside her beloved husband of 73 years, and her family. At 95 she could still be found in her garden on their farm, her true sanctuary and happy place. Along with going on the occasional beach trips to fish.

                         She was preceded in death by her husband, Baylus Claiborn Wood; sisters, Othelle Griffin, Elsie Coppedge; brothers, Clem Edwards, Brodious Edwards.

                         She leaves to cherish her memory; daughter, Barbara W. Boykin (Mark) of Bailey; sons, Charles Wood of Spring Hope and Bobby Wood (Cathy) of Spring Hope; grandchildren, Brian Wood (Corie) and Jeromy Wood (Jennifer); great-grandchildren, Blake, Blair, Cade, and Addie Grace Wood; sister, Joyce Pace of Tarboro; sister-in-law, Glenda Edwards of Rocky Mount and several nieces and nephews and friends.

                         The family would also like to Thank Darlene Lopez, Connie Graikowski, Kendall Webb, Peggy Aycock and Elaine Richardson for their wonderful care and devotion to our mother.

                         Funeral services will be held Thursday, October 23, 2025 at 11:00 am at Holly Grove Baptist Church with Pastor Kevin Conner and Dr. Benjamin Quinn officiating. A visitation will be held one hour prior to the service. Interment will follow in the church cemetery, 1640 Holly Rd, Spring Hope, NC 27882.
