Gladys Bryant Collie

SPRING HOPE....Gladys Bryant Collie, 95, died peacefully on October 28, 2018 at Community Hospice in Fernandina Beach, Florida, following a short hospitalization for a brain aneurysm. Coastal Camden Funeral Home is entrusted with her arrangements. Funeral services will be held Friday, November 2, at 3 p.m. at Spring Hope Funeral Home. Nicole Hamilton, pastor at White Oak United Methodist Church, officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home one hour prior to the service. Interment will follow the service at Spring Hope Memorial Gardens. The oldest of four children, Gladys was born on February 13, 1923 in Nash County to Redmond and Betty Bryant. Her surviving siblings are Herbert Bryant who resides in Fayetteville, North Carolina and Willa Mae Joyner of Rocky Mount. She was presided in death by her sister, Imogene Tyson of Rocky Mount, North Carolina. Gladys is also survived by her only daughter, Sandra, son in-law, Bill Strickland and numerous nieces and nephews and grand nieces and nephews. Gladys graduated from Spring Hope High School and made her career in the Medical Records Department at Parkview Hospital and later Nash General Hospital in Rocky Mount, NC. In 1954, Gladys married Aubrey Wilson Collie, whom she was married to for 41 years. She was devoted to Aubrey and cared for him at home after he lost his leg, until his death in 1995. Gladys served the Lord and was a Sunday school teacher at White Oak United Methodist Church and later at Kingsland Baptist Church when she moved to Kingsland, Georgia in 1994 to live with her daughter, Sandra, and son in-law, Bill Strickland. Gladys was also a volunteer at the Camden County campus of Southeast Georgia Health System in Saint Marys, Georgia. A memorial service will be held in Kingsland, Georgia at a later date.
