Carl "Craig" Strickland

Winterville...................... Carl "Craig" Strickland, 71, passed peacefully at Vidant Medical Center, Greenville, NC, Saturday, November 18, 2018. Funeral services will be Wednesday, November 21, 2018, 3:00 PM at Spring Hope Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Kevin Moore officiating. Interment will follow the service in Spring Hope Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Craig was born November 8, 1947 in Nash County to Carl and Navada Strickland of Spring Hope and resided in Winterville, NC. He earned a Bachelors degree in Electrical Engineering from NC State University and a Masters in business administration from Fuqua School of Business at Duke University. During his career as an engineer, he was awarded numerous patents for electrical connectors and was one of a select few nominated to serve on an international committee of engineers. Craig was a U S Army veteran serving during the Vietnam War. He was a member of the Central Cross 187 Masonic Lodge in Spring Hope, NC. Craig was president of the Kinston Area Railroad Modelers Association and a member of the Carolina Coastal Railroaders. He spent many hours building intricate trains and buildings for creating scenic train dioramas. In addition to railroading, Craig was an avid bridge player which he learned to play as a young adult from his parents. Craig is survived by his wife, Hilda Greene Strickland; daughter, Anita Strickland of Grimesland, NC and son, Robert Strickland (Colleen) of Fuquay-Varina, NC, two grandchildren, Austin Brown and Mackenzie Kuc, Grimesland, a sister Margret "Maggi" Harding (Richard) of Red Oak and a brother William "Bill" Strickland (Sandra) of Kingsland, GA.
